A four-course graduate certificate for classroom teachers seeking to deepen their faith-informed teaching practice.
The Christian Instructional Leadership Certificate (CILC) is an ICS-issued professional credential designed for K–12 classroom teachers who desire to deepen their Christian worldview in the context of their teaching practice.
Through four graduate-level courses, the CILC equips educators to integrate faith and practice, meet the needs of all learners, and cultivate a growth mindset grounded in a biblical vision of education. Each course also counts as graduate credit toward the MA-EL or MWS-E.
Required Courses
Complete all four required courses below. One alternate is available as noted.
Called to Teach: From Formation to Transformation
Explore your vocation as an educator, reflecting on teaching practice in the context of faith and spiritual disciplines. An inner journey designed to inspire refreshment and renewal in your work within Christian education.
Deeper Learning: From Wonder to Inquiry to Practice
Explore learning as a journey from wonder to inquiry to action. Develop Deeper Learning within the context of celebrating the learner as image-bearer, mindful learning design, and a responsiveness to culture.
Cultivating Learning Communities of Belonging
Explore school and classroom cultures, including social and cultural contexts, racial justice, Indigenous perspectives, human sexuality, and restorative practices — and how these topics impact and form school and classroom cultures.
Explore positional and contributory leadership, algorithmic and heuristic practices, and the work of motivating a group of people to shape what they share — making beneficial change happen and ensuring needed maintenance.
Transformative Teaching: The Practice of Christ-Centred Education
An alternate for Deeper Learning. Consider your role as a Christian educator called to be a transformer of society and culture. Examines constructivism through the lens of Scripture and explores Christian practices within teaching.
Note: Transformative Teaching: The Practice of Christ-Centred Education may be taken in place of Deeper Learning. All CILC courses also count as graduate credit toward the MA-EL or MWS-E.
